Being in Colton’s mentorship has really been a game changer for me. I was always into design and he was a big inspiration to me going into concept art. He taught me a lot of techniques such as photobashing and the use of 3D to put into my work. Throughout the time I’ve been under his wing I’ve seen drastic changes in both understanding and in quality of my design. It went from anime to what I have now, which is a completely different ball game. He would do a lot of paintovers whenever I showed him my pieces for help. Overall he’s such a big help and I totally recommend anyone to take his mentorship 😀

Looking back taking a mentorship with Colton was one of the best decisions I ever made as an artist. Colton’s aim was to tackle my specific problems head-on; he made absolutely sure to push my skills forward as an artist. He completely personalized the mentorship to my specific interests and goals as an artist, creating a course that was solely focused on my interests.
My goal for the mentorship was to improve my skills in design and to properly think through my creative work process. Colton gave me specific assignments to work on with specific design outlines that helped me approach design from a variety of angles. Colton regularly checked in on how I was progressing with my work, whenever I had any questions or issues with my task he was always more than happy to help me out. Stepping out of my comfort zone and working alongside a creative guideline, really gave me the push I needed in growing my creative potential, concepting designs that meet my personal expectations, and what a client would be expecting from a designer.
Colton and I scheduled calls weekly, where we would meet up and discuss how I’m progressing with the mentorship, and also making time to properly answer any important questions I had about the industry. Colton made sure to do detailed paintovers for every assignment I did, visually explaining where I could improve. In addition to doing paintovers, Colton further elaborated how I could improve my designs by showing me other professionals’ work to help highlight and compare what qualities I needed to think about when drawing in the future. During these calls I asked Colton lots of questions about what it’s like to be a professional concept artist, and what I needed to know about getting a job. Colton always answered every question I had for him, explaining to me in great depth about what I needed to know and how I could achieve a working position in the industry.
In only two months my skills in art have literally improved overnight, and after the mentorship had ended, I continued to apply much of his teachings to my work and grow consistently as an artist. I highly recommend to anybody who is interested in learning about concept art, as Colton’s mentorship was an experience that changed my life.
